Moke international has launched a new, pure-electric version of the renowned small Moke. It’s available to purchase now, with prices starting from £34,980 before the government’s plug-in automobile grant, and will be with buyers next summer.
The electric Moke is powered by a three-phase AC synchronous motor which produces 44bhp – or about 10bhp much more than the classic’s original 848cc A-Series engine. The firm says that’s enough for a 0–34mph time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 62mph.
Mini Moke returns with modern creature comforts
However, while there’s a little much more performance, the switch to electric power has made the Moke pile on the pounds. It weighs 800kg thanks to the battery pack, which is practically double the amount of the original petrol model.

To try and reduce some of this weight-gain, Moke international has thoroughly reworked the car’s bodywork and chassis, swapping some original steel panels for lightweight aluminium replacements. The brakes and suspension have also been improved to cope with the added bulk, and regenerative braking has been added alongside a new power steering system.
The company has added even more creature comforts, such as a heated windscreen as standard. buyers are also invited to customise their automobiles to their exact taste, with Moke international providing a range of paint finishes and cabin trims.
On a full charge, the electric Moke will cover 89 miles. That doesn’t seem like a terrific deal, but the brand stresses that the automobile isn’t developed for long distances and charge times are short, so it shouldn’t matter. A full charge takes just four hours when using a type 2 charger.

The brand also sells an improved version of the Moke with a modern twin-cam petrol engine, but it will be pulled from sale at the turn of the new Year.Production of the electric Moke will happen here in the UK at the company’s 500,000 square foot facility in Northamptonshire.
